AI CST Conference 2026
Human Flourishing in the Algorithmic Age
October 26th and 27th
London
Rarely has a tool designed to help humans been so effective at replicating, reproducing, or replacing those they have been designed to help. Yet in 2026, the cutting-edge AI models have been able to take what a master painter would do in a lifetime and produce a copy in mere seconds. Large technology companies are trepidations about the future – work may become optional; technology will replace the need for individual effort and achievement. Soon, humans need not apply.
In 2025, scholars, technologists, and experts from various fields came together for the first annual conference on AI and Catholic Social Thought, titled Catholic Social Teaching and AI: Responses to the Ethical Challenges of Emerging Technologies. What emerged was a burgeoning response that was both cautious and optimistic. In the year that has proceeded this event, AI and their companies have become bolder in their attacks on human creativity, defiant in their desire to relegate human work to an “optional” extra, and release newer models while legislation remains woefully inadequate to resolve the developing ethical and legal problems.

AI CST 2025
In 2025, St Mary’s University, Twickenham, organised the first AI and Catholic Social Teaching conference in Edinburgh Scotland. It brought together technologists, scholars, legal experts, and the wider public to discuss how the Social Doctrine of the Church ought to reckon with AI technology.
Hosted at the Gillis Centre in September, this conference drew international attention and set the groundwork for the Society and its future conferences.
